Youth martial arts at Seattle White Tiger Kung Fu focus on giving your child the necessary foundation to make martial arts a healthy habit that can last a lifetime. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention our youth should exercise for one hour (60 minutes) minimum each day.
MARTIAL ARTS GIVES THEM A HEALTHY ACTIVITY!
- Obese youth are more likely to have risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure. In a population based sample of 5 – 17 year olds, 70% of obese youth had at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
- Obese youth are more likely to have pre-diabetes, a condition in which blood glucose levels indicate a high risk for development of diabetes.
- Youth who are obese are at greater risk for bone and joint problems, sleep apnea, and social and psychological problems such as stigmatization and poor self-esteem.
Most importantly martial arts gives them the right balance of all types of physical exercise.
AEROBIC ACTIVITY is a large portion of martial arts. From the constant drills for conditioning to sparring classes your child will get plenty of exercise for their lungs.
MUSCLE BUILDING EXERCISE is recommended at least 3 days per week. Martial arts uses stance exercises to build leg strength as well as push ups and gymnastics skills to increase their functional strength.
BONE STRENGTHENING such as contact drills and flying techniques are an important part of preparing the students for sparring. Helping round out the overall physical fitness benefits of martial arts.
